Seasons

Six Foe: Seasons
This is a special record here in Helsinki. Dropped at the right time it makes people lose it. All of the Databass classics are available at Junodownload and other internet stores, go take a listen.
Shout outs to HGBP.

Shopping in Japan

So I returned from Japan just before Christmas. I can’t front, I love the country more and more everytime I get to go. Obviously once again hours on end were spent record shopping, here’s a few choice rips of things I brought home.

Brian & Tony Gold: Between The Sheets
One of my faves from this trip, a truly classy 80’s dancehall version of the Isley masterpiece. Already played it out 3 times.

Vanessa Williams: Happiness
R&B; fave from 1997, have no idea what happened to my copy so had to buy a new one.

Mos Def & Vinia Mojica: Magnificient
I haven’t really followed dudes career recently. This Clash sampling white label from some 5 years back was cool though and I remember trying to locate one back then. My man DJ Didier used to play this a lot.

Hamilton Bohannon: Let’s Start The Dance
A true disco classic, the 12″ with the original version is hard to get and eluded me for years.

ESG: Party Music (Party + Raw Edit)
I don’t know why I didn’t already have this as I’m a fan of ESG and 99 Records in general. This is from their 1988 EP on Popular Records and is up there with any of their more famous songs. The song comes in two versions- the second slightly faster than the first- I quickly edited them together so you can play them back to back if you wish.

Major shout outs to my man Makoto at Hiyoko Records. Those who lived in New York around millennium might remember him from Weekend Records in Williamsburg, his new shop in Shimokitazawa is one of Tokyo’s best and well worth the 20 minute subway ride from Shinjuku or Shibuya.

I’ll post photos as soon as my man Fiskars sends me some. Also there’s plenty more records still on their way, including some cool Japanese things, so stay tuned.

Classic Time #26

A timeless classic and also one of the first house records I really got into, back in the mid-90’s when I was still a little hip hop dude.

Classic Time #25

Japan

Me and DJ Fiskars are flying out there tomorrow & of course I’m hyped. Therefore here’s one of my favorite Japanese records, the main guy behind this is Hideki Matsutake who’s better known for his work with Yellow Magic Orchestra.
Locic System: Automatic Collect, Automatic Correct (1981)

Modern Soul & Boogie Bangers vol 2

I’m back home for a few days before flying out to Japan on Tuesday. Soul-Sami- one of my favorite Helsinki DJ’s- just uploaded the second volume in his excellent mixtape series and even after blasting the CD for weeks back in May I just know this will keep me entertained for the plane ride…

Btw, readers out in Tokyo and Osaka feel free to holler via email (AnonymousHKI at gmail dot com), I was out there last year but any and all tips regarding clubs, record stores and whatnot are still more than welcome.
