American Nights

My man Joshua Dunn (aka Fox 50) from Detroit, whom I haden't heard from in a year or so, just emailed me about three new mixes up on his Podomatic page. His old mixes used to be road trip staples for me and turned out the American Nights are just as good or even better. The selection is a classy blend of early 80's electro-funk, electro-pop and boogie, with only a handful of songs I was familiar with. Highly recommended to everybody who enjoyed The Disco Opera below or the more electronic passages of my Disco To Get Drunk To series. Listen and download here!

Where I'm from most people remember San Francisco's Rappin 4-Tay just for his 1994 hit Playaz Club when his subsequent singles were just as good.

What we have here is a cool little reggae remix of Angie Stone's smash hit from 2002. The original version and house remixes were all over the place for months on end, this mysterious UK white label was barely available for a week.

Here's a real banging ganja tune on the Dun Dem riddim from 2000 or so. I used to play this quite a lot back then, but lost the 12" somewhere and only located it last weekend while going through some old stacks for the Kovalevy gig... Also included is the useful hip hop remix over the ever popular "I Just Wanna Love You" beat by Jay-Z.

Classic Time #14

This somewhat forgotten Wu classic first appeared on the Don't Be A Menace soundtrack and was later included on the Ghostface solo debut Ironman. Even if credited to Ghost it is Cappadonna who really steals the show here. Blasting his rrridiculous 54 bar (!) verse on repeat has been a recent after party favorite around these parts and that's basically what inspired this post.. Jump to 2:27 and revisit it yourself:
