She's So Divine

The Limit: She's So Divine (Long Version)(1982)

This might be one of the coolest records to ever come from Holland. The smooth pop vocals go well with the synth funk bassline and the whole thing's just right for a fine spring day like this... A few years later the dudes striked it big with this.

Btw, if anyone has Forrest's later version of the same song please hook us up.

King Of The Beats

As far as I'm concerned, King Of The Beats is one of the greatest bonus b-sides of all time. One could also argue that it's one of the best instrumental hip hop tracks ever recorded.

Wearin My Rolex

I haven't been posting much new stuff recently, maybe I should change that I dunno... Anyway, here's a real banger that's been around for a second, but surprisingly took me a few listens to get into. I mean really, Wiley over DSK's 1991 house classic What Would We Do, what's not to like?

Wiley: Wearing My Rolex

Btw, I was also going to post a photo of this, but decided shit's too ugly to warrant it, even for laughs.

The More I Get...

Here's a belated little easter gift to ya'll. One of the greatest cover versions ever, one of my all time favorite 12"s, in all of it's 7 minute glory. The single hardly ever turns up and to this day there's no legit reissue out there. You need to promise me one thing though: if you ever play this out don't even THINK about quick mixing out after 2 or 3 minutes: the thing builds and builds and builds and at 5:50 when the bassline kicks in again it's straight murder believe me...

War In Love

I'm not a big italo head by any means, but I know a cool synthesizer groove when I hear one. Recently I stumbled on a stack of italo 12"s and for my money this was the best of the bunch.

1 Yr Anniversary...

So it seems my technical problems are behind, at least for the time being, and as promised here's a little something to celebrate my first full year in this here blog game as well as my 300th post.

I first got into house music about ten years ago. I was playing mostly hip hop at the time, but had been getting deeper into disco and stuff for a few years already. House was the logical extension of that and the fact that my city actually had a happening house scene back then didn't hurt either.
In the early 00's my interest vaned, I was busy with other stuff and the scene kind of changed as well. Over the last year and a half I've been getting back into the game, slowly but surely. I've bought stacks of records, mostly 80's and early 90's, but also revisited the songs that made a hip hop kid fall in love with house in the first place.
For your enjoyment, here's 10 late 90's jams that are still very near and dear to me...

Moodymann: Untitled (Don't Be Misled)

Kenny Dixon Jr: Don't You Want My Love (Pandemonium Version)

Deep Sensation: Somehow Someway

CZR: Chicago Southside

Deelat: Wet Indiez

Daniel Wang: Like Some Dream I Can't Stop Dreaming (Break Mix)

Roy Davis: Under The Sun

The System: You're In My System (Spanish Version)(Kerri Chandler Remix)

K Hand: Supernatural

BeBe Winans: Thank You (Masters At Work Remix)

I believe most of the artists above still make music and/or play out, please support their efforts whenever you have the chance.
Shout outs to DJ Pirkka & Helsinki House Underground who teached me everything I know about house, Lil Tony, Mika Snickars, 3rd Cowboy, Nenis, K2 & DJ Kaippa.

Btw, the house mix I've been promising my peoples for a year now will be out this spring, guaranteed.

Rude Rydims

Before Jigmastas and way before his later house career I knew DJ Spinna as the other half of Rude Rydims. The other half was this dude called Nkansa. They put out 2 hot party records in the mid-90's and did some cool remix work as well.

Rude Rydims: Everybody Bounce (1995)
from Rude Rydims Experiment
Rude Rydims: You Could Even Dance (1995)
from Rude Rydims Experiment II

BONUS:
Capleton: Tour (Rude Rydims Bonus Mix)(1994)

Everybody Bounce is my jam, I used to play it A LOT back then and kind of rediscovered it last year. You Could Even Dance is from Volume II which I actually didn't even have until I got one in Tokyo and it's really good too. The Capleton remix is from the same Tour 12" that features another remix by a very young Jonathan "Lil Jon" Smith. I'll post that one later, together with some other dancehall things he did back in the day.

...and I can't recommend the event enough. Here's a 4 minutes snippet from the beginning of his last year's set. The sound is distorting, but you'll get the point.

Blind

The much hyped new single on DFA is finally out next week. People can't seem to stop talking about the Frankie Knuckles remix. It is really good, but I prefer the dub which supposedly is not going to be on the 12".

Hercules & Love Affair: Blind (Frankie Knuckles Dub)

Update: the dub will be on a 12" after all, on the so called Blind #2 that's out a week after the first one.
