In honor of his 50th birthday yesterday, here's one of the best Jacko covers ever.

Oh Well

So I missed the Discobelle party back home and I missed this. Go get it, it's my little updated edit of this.

And I'm going to miss the DJ Sega & DSJ night this weekend which really sucks too. All of my HKI peoples make sure to be there OK.
Have a fun wknd ya'll, I'm out to see what L.A.'s Little Tokyo has to offer.

UPDATE: Oh so the edit is here too. Eli's that dude.

UPDATE pt 2: Little Tokyo is just great. So many cool restaurants from sushi to ramen to shabu shabu to Korean BBQ. I also need to shout out last night's hosts Blu Jemz and Mike B, the funniest dudes in L.A.

Ghis

So over the last couple of months I've turned into this Ghislain Poirier fan. As far as internet club shit with some sense goes, this has been one of the best tracks all year and the first leak from the forthcoming Face-T & Ghislain Poirier mixtape is kind of bangin as well.
It's on the Crookers / Kid Cudi beat, just so you know.

Sexy Mama

I've loved this little jammy forever, but just today discovered the extra long 9 minute version. I especially like how it fades out at 6:30, just to come back for another 2 minutes like it ain't no thing.

Shut Em Down

Public Enemy: Shut Em Down (Pete Rock Remix)(1992)

So is this like the best remix ever or what? A long time ago I used to play it as the last song of the night for a while, I guess I could start doing that again.

APT Tomorrow!

Me an my main man Chairman Mao will be at APT tomorrow for his long running Grand Groove night. Come check us out if you're in NYC.

Also, last night, fresh off the plane, I did the Wax Poetics Record Rundown with my peoples Josh D & J.Kirby. The podcast is up on the EVR site now. My selections are not listed in the playlist, I have them here now though.

Dolly My Baby

Super Cat feat Notorious BIG, Puffy & Mary J Blige: Dolly My Baby (Bad Boy Extended Mix)(1993)

I don't think this is up there with Ghetto Red Hot as far as dancehall / hip hop remixes go, but the Watermelon beat is hot and the Biggie verse towards the end makes it worthwhile after all. Puffy trying to be all grimy and stuff is kinda annoying, though, so you might want to cue point the notorious one right away. "I love it when they call me Big Poppa, the show stoppa, the rhyme droppa..."

Royalle Delite

How you gonna be sleazy and classy at the same time? Like this, I suppose.

Royalle Delite: (I'll Be A) Freak For You (1984)

I have this on a US 12", but I kinda wish i had the UK one as well because the cover (above) is so dope. From what I've gathered the song was huge there. Originally it hails from New York (kind of obvious isn't it?) and was produced by Lonnie Johnson of Shades Of Love and Marta Acuna fame.

Shout outs to my partner DJ Fiskars who put this on a mix way back and had me rewind it for days.

Track Four Edit

Moodymann: Track Four (DJ Anonymous Edit)(98/08)
This is a simple dj friendly edit I just made of one of KDJ's best tracks, and one I hardly ever hear played out. As far as I'm concerned Moodymann songs should be played at all occasions, but I feel the jacking beat and edits on this kind of make it especially relevant today.

Together Forever

Exodus: Together Forever (1982)

A loooong time ago I posted the dub version with the accapella parts and got a bunch of requests for the vocal as well and here it finally is. One of all time favorite disco records, with reggae / dancehall singer Tinga Stewart on the vocals. The song's been sampled in house repeatedly, check Joey Negro's Raven Maize version here.

Flow Festival This Weekend

One of the highlights of HKI summer, the annual Flow Festival is happening again this weekend. With artists and DJ's from Cut Copy to Sebastian Tellier, Caspa and Rusko to The Roots and the massive Saturday night line-up of
DJ Funk, Bobby Konders & Massive B and my man Eli Escobar it's going to be big, no doubt about it. I'll be in the mix as well, doin a late night 2 hour back to back set with my homie DJ Fiskars on Friday and a brief warm-up set with my Top Billin boys on Saturday. Hoping to see my Helsinki peoples there.

The I Got A Love Routine

The Ambassadors: Ain't Got The Love Of One Girl (1969)

Mel & Tim: Groovy Situation (1970)

A long time ago I used to have this little routine where I'd play these two tunes back to back, sometimes going back and forth from one to the other. It was about the samples of course, but I was also always amazed at what incredible songs they both were. And they kept people dancing too.

Request Time

So I just rediscovered these little notes to myself. That String Track was easy to track down, but if anyone has 320s of the Let's Get Married remixes- the Remarqable Remix with Jermaine Dupri & Run DMC as well as the Reception Remix with Kanye- I could definitely use them.

Just re-posting some shit that's been all over the nets since last night. I don't think it's properly mixed either, but kinda enjoyable nonetheless.

And while on the topic of the Roc, this just dropped. One of my favorite cuts from Graduation.

Killer Groove II

Formula V: Killer Groove II (1983)

Killer Groove is exactly what the title says. The number II refers the instrumental version, I always preferred it to the vocal as it's subtle and kind of epic at the same time. The occasional vocoders and chants add a nice touch. The song is produced by Rich Cason of Galactic Force fame and originally appeared on his tiny Write On label before being licensed to former TK subsidiary Malaco.

Can't Believe It

Guess what? Can't Believe It was the first T-Pain song in a long while I wasn't really feelin at all. Now I just got this dancehall blend by Paris' DJ Weedim and it completely made the song for me.

Classic Time #38

So I've been on this early-90's rap kick lately, playing semi-forgotten bangers like this to prime time dancefloors. I never had doubles of the 12" (translucent orange like whoa), but thanks to digital technology I now have this routine where I do the original version first and go to the remix from the first chorus.
What can I say, there was a time when Kris was not to be messed with.

Oslo Tomorrow

So no new rips as of yet, no posts either as you can see... I was down in Saaremaa, Estonia for most of the weekend with no real internet connection whatsoever. Tomorrow I'll be flying out to Oslo, Norway to dj my man Patrick's long running Juicy party. I'm already kind of hyped!
