As requested... Suomi Soul #2 from 2006

DJ Anonymous: Suomi Soul#2 (2006)
alternative Megaupload link
I thought I had uploaded most of my older mixes last year already, including this here, until it was requested multiple times over the last month or two.
Like Volume 1 (now re-upped), this one deals with smooth 1970's soul exclusively and titles that used to be common here particularly. The mix starts off slow jam style, but builds in tempo towards the end. I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the whole thing still sounded- I guess you can't really go wrong with timeless jams like these.

The Life Archives
As most of you probably know, this was big news last week. I didn't have time to delve in until today, here's a few random shots I found fascinating.

Basement Soul Vol 1
Time for some local DJ history. My old friend DJ Kelloggs just hit me with a mixtape rip from '97 and as I've been hearing about the mix for a long time of course I had to post it, too. It's called Basement Soul Volume 1 and it's by my man DJ Newhouse. The whole thing is a prime example of the kind of deep and soulful house sound he's always been known for. It's recorded in one take too, with no editing whatsoever. Respect.
Btw, this is a cassette rip and you can defintely hear it too. In a good way.
Enjoy!

Dance Tonight
Raphael Saadiq: Dance Tonight (Linslee Campbell Remix)(2000)I posted this a looong time ago, but the file was kind of crappy, here's a proper 12" rip. The original version is a classic, but for playing out purposes I prefer the Linslee remix that retains all the smoothness but adds snappier drums.
BONUS:
My favorite non-single cut from the album. Incredible.

A few words about Zshare
The older ones seem to be down for good. If anyone know why so abruptly, I'd like to know as well. I'm already getting a lot of requests and will most likely re-up at least some, but it's going to take some time. Bear with me.
Labels: Internets
Love Edit
While on the road last week I spent a lot of time doing edits as well. Here'sone my favorite 80's album tracks extended to single length. The incredible production is by Malavasi and Petrus of Change fame, of course.

Marley Marl In Control 1989
I had to post this great Marley Marl radio set I've been listening to repeatedly during last week's travels. Great selection and a super dope freestyle by Kool Keith himself. I grabbed this in a big lot of 80's radio shows a while back, I believe the tape rip is by someone called A to the L. Fudge Pudge

I feel like I'm getting sick, I got a 6am flight to Moscow and for whatever reason this is exactly what I felt like posting right now... I dunno, it's still good and you never ever ever hear it anywhere nowadays, so enjoy.

Rasa
Rasa: Chanting (1978)Back in high school me and my boy used to go to the local Hare Krishna temple to eat. The all-vegetarian lunch was off the hook and the monks were super friendly as long as you donated at least something. I haven't really messed with the Hare Krishna since, this weirdo funk record being an exception. There's some lesser moments too, but the synth bassline on Chanting is where it's at for me. Sample heads already know what I'm talking about.

Black Moses Radio Special
Isaac Hayes: Open End Radio Special (1972)
So I found this buried in the shelves today and was cursing myself for forgetting about it when he died. Would have been perfect for the radio show. Oh well. Anyway, here it is for you to enjoy and even use. You'll hear Isaac chatting about the then brand new Black Moses album but also about fashion, about being a sex symbol, about his haircut and about RAPPING. Some memorable lines there. Enjoy...
Btw, the Curtis Mayfield Rapping radio show is now re-upped, for those who missed it on Zshare.

I'm Back...
...and there was a ton of good stuff in my inbox.
Brand new mix by my man Smutlee in London. Dancehall and funky all the way, with big hits from both genres mixed with lesser known tunes and exclusive blends.
Smutlee: November Dancehall & Funky Mix
And another classy mix, this one from my Soulico peoples in Tel-Aviv. This is a live recording and has a real laid back warm-up vibe to it.
DJ EyalRob: Soul Ecstasy live at the Shesek Pt 1

This is finally out and you definitely need to grab it if you enjoy banging club beats with Lil Jon samples and solid raps. And I know you do.

My HKI peoples: Emynd (and Bo Bliz) @ Redrum Saturday next week, more on that soon.

Boeing: Dance On The Beat Instrumental (1982)
I'm off to Germany (and Austria) in a minute (Munich tonight @ Registratur, Innsbruck tomorrow @ Blue Chip, HOLLA!), but before I go I just had to post a sweet disco jam. I haven't posted any in a while and I know many of you really enjoy them so here we go.
Have a good weekend everybody....

M'du
DJ Mujava's big hit Township Funk (btw, peep the Radioclit remix) has indeed inspired many of us to investigate the Kwaito house sound at least a little bit. No doubt there's incredible stuff to be discovered and and the scene goes back a long time too. M'du (or Mdu) seems to be one of the originators and this here jam is one of my personal favorites.M'du: Siya Jola (2000)

...what she's saying.
Nami Shimada: Sun Shower (1989)
This is the original and in my opinion best version. The song was later remixed by Larry Levan himself.
