Coming To You Live (1980)
An old fave I kind of re-discovered over the weekend, ended up playing it both nights. I just love everything about this: the smoothness, the sophisticated instrumentation, the party chants. Let’s see, maybe I can play this in China too.
DJ Eleven started the weekend early, with a dope hip hop set Wednesday night. Friday was the main event with Eli Escobar who delivered a bangin three hour set (btw check out Holy Ghost! Nick droppin gems in the comments section of his April 19 post). Saturday I took the plane down to Gothenburg, Sweden to play a soul & disco set at Nefertiti. The party was packed and it was great to see people goin wild for forgotten classics such as this. Thanks to everybody who showed up. Tomorrow I’m on the move again, on my way to China. I’ll be playing Shanghai and Beijing together with my Top Billin homie Flipperi and the New Judas crew. Looking forward to this.
Also, I’ll be at Nefertiti in Gothenburg, Sweden, tomorrow Saturday doing a classic disco & soul set. Locals get at me via email for guestlist & whatnot.
And once more for all of you who missed this the first time around, the impeccable Stand Back Remix:
Another perfect example of a disco dub just murdering the vocal version. RIP Tee Scott.
This is one the first rips on a new set up I’m testing here, including a vintage Formula Sound PM-90 mixer. I’m liking the results, and included the lossless version for those of you who care. Feedback appreciated as always. Tee’s Happy (1981) Tee’s Happy AIFF
Pinchers: Bandelero + Version (1991) Pinchers’ ‘91 classic Bandelero is truly one of my all time faves. Not only is dude’s voice unbelievable, the lyrics are pure dancehall bravado told in terms of spaghetti western classics. Genius. The rip here is from a slightly busted Jammy’s 12″ (as you will hear) and includes the version unedited in the end.
