Classic Time #41

Shabba Ranks: Respect (1993)
A massive tune on the Hot Milk riddim best known for Barrington's timeless Murderer. Shabba's pretty damn convincing schooling the younger stars and shouting out foundation deejays.
It's a 45 rip and sounds just like it too lol.

I Don't Want To Be The Last To Know

Somewhat forgotten slow jam by one of Solar's biggest acts... Just the right kind of smooth for this winter night. Female lead by Jody Watley, of course.

Sunday Song #2

Raheem DeVaughn: Guess Who Loves You More (2004)
This smooth little jam never really went anywhere on the charts, but I liked it a lot. The snappy beat is by Kenny Dope.

Deep In Brooklyn

From rap to dancehall to house, all in all Big Beat was a real solid label through most of the 1990's. Some of my favorite things are the handful of party breaks they put out and as far as I'm concerned the Deep In Brooklyn mix of Kenny Dope's Supa is still one of the dopest in the genre. Dancehall vocals over rap beats always work for me and the Louie Rankin loop here is especially addictive.

Reach Out

In addition to the all-time disco classic I Want You For Myself George Duke has a few other jams from the era. Someone put this catchy little edit on a 12" a few years back...

600 Posts

Once again it's that time. Another 100 posts, another 10 classic jams. And since we just welcomed '09, let's go all the way back to '89 for a minute...

This is no "best of" list by any means, just 10 timeless jams I happened to rip lately. I feel they all deserved their own post even, but for now they are here in one zip for your convenience. The link won't stay up forever, so act like you know...

Temperature's Rising

Whoa I've been busy, mostly doing nothing more than playing records and just hangin out. Anyway...here's an oldie I've been meaning to post for a while, but never got around to until someone just requested it. So here we go again.
This is the first original version of Temperature's Rising that never made it to the regular 12" (featuring two Q-Tip reworks) or The Infamous due to the sample not clearing.
