In The City

""In the City" is a song written by Barry DeVorzon and Joe Walsh for the soundtrack to the film The Warriors. The song was first recorded by Walsh and released on The Warriors soundtrack album in 1979. Another version recorded by the Eagles was included on their 1979 album The Long Run.
---
Although not released as a single, the track became an album-oriented rock radio favorite in the U.S. and a Walsh concert staple and was featured on the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over album and video in 1994."

Now You Want Me

A little something for the weekend! Massive Romanthony dub from 1993, I've been requested this repeatedly since I made a little remix/edit of it a few years back. This is the original version and it's more or less the best thing I've ever heard.

JoJo (1980)
So smooth. You know it's a real party when you can drop this in the middle of the night.

BONUS:
Lowdown (1976)
Another big classic by Boz. I always loved the story of Grand Wizard Theodore just accidentally inventing scratching while cueing the break on this when his mother knocked on the door.

Classic from back in the day. I hadn't heard this in a looooong while until I ran into the album again just a couple of days ago. This will forever remind me of Biz Markie and Finsta Bundy (Tape Kingz Records FTW).

Summery Summer Jams

The summer's here and we got another 100 posts full, totaling at 700 already. Once again, here's 10 essential mellow jams to celebrate the occasion.

Summer Madness Live (1976)
Worth it for the intro alone.

Charisma (1981)
"What's the deal huh? Let's keep it real huh?"

Vykkii (1976)
Play this at 45.

In All My Wildest Dreams (1978)
So obvious, so good.

Valdez In The Country (1973)
Donny was a genius.

Star Borne (1974)
Mizell Bros still rule.

Hollywood Dreaming (1979)
Personal fave from back in the day.

Don't Stop Loving Me Now (1978)
"Word Iz Life." They made so many great songs.

Movin In The Right Direction (1981)
I can't believe they reissued those other songs by him but not this.

New-Found Truths (1972)
The definition of smooth.

I finally got my laptop back. I really wanted to do a post and shout out all the cool peoples I met in Tokyo last week, but that will have to wait as I need to run any minute now. I just had to post a classic rap jam though... and omg they don't get much better than this.

You Should Never Test The Champion

Pinchers: Bandelero + Version (1991)
Pinchers' '91 classic Bandelero is truly one of my all time faves. Not only is dude's voice unbelievable, the lyrics are pure dancehall bravado told in terms of spaghetti western classics. Genius.
The rip here is from a slightly busted Jammy's 12" (as you will hear) and includes the version unedited in the end.

Memory Lane

The coolest thing about record shopping in Japan is that you're bound to see records you didn't even know existed (like this). I think the Memory Lane instrumental here is more or less just a skillful edit job, but it's still pretty cool if you love the Reuben Wilson loop like I do.

2 Years of DJ's Delight

I just realized I started this little hobby of mine exactly 2 years ago today, with pretty boring posts on Atmosfear, Sade and local producers. It took one week and a post on an ancient mix of mine to generate any traffic, though.

I want to thank all of my regular visitors and subscribers for hanging on so long. This has been a lot of fun, taught me a lot about music and opened some doors too so let's keep it going.

Two celebrate these 2 years, here's 2 versions of my favorite weird old school classic. Area Code 615's harmonica jam from 1970 is pretty well known, but the mid-80's Italian bootleg remix incorporating the You'll Like It Too break is kind of obscure I guess. As weird as the groove is, it seems it always appealed to a lot of different DJ's, maybe it's time someone recycled it again.
