Recommended Reading

I can't recall what I was searching for when I stumbled on writer/critic Carol Cooper's (Village Voice, Rolling Stone etc) homepage. Doesn't matter, really. If you're interested in solid contemporary writing on artists we all know & love you should pay her a visit as well.
I particularly enjoyed her pieces on Emerald, Sapphire & Gold (ESG), August Darnell and of course Prince.

Edit: oh yeah.... I stumbled there trying to find Gichy Dan dude's real name. Therefore:

New Edit

Stretched instrumental take on Clausel's early 80's soul jammy. The production is pretty damn slick.

And an older one I've been requested repeatedly. Long live Petrus and Malavasi!

Chromeo edit now for DL!

The good folks at Green Label Sound put out the new Chromeo single some time ago. I very much liked the song, but thought it was simply too short and radio edit like for club play. I posted my little disco edit for preview last week and got a ton of feedback and requests for DL. So here we go, a brand new Mediafire 320 just for you. Holler via email for an Aiff.

I just ran into this 9 minute edit over at Soundcloud. It's pretty smooth and unlike most tracks there you can DL a 320 from the arrow on the right side of the player, player.

A Taste Of Honey

Rescue Me has been one up my favorite jams to cut up for as long as I can remember. It's such a catchy groove and seems to always work. I'm playing records tonight and just pulled the doubles out again. For you I got a little intro edit I did back when I first got Serato 3 years ago.

Everybody knows I Got A Man and That's The Joint, the most famous joints to sample Rescue Me. Here's another equally good one.

2 Years of DJ's Delight

I just realized I started this little hobby of mine exactly 2 years ago today, with pretty boring posts on Atmosfear, Sade and local producers. It took one week and a post on an ancient mix of mine to generate any traffic, though.

I want to thank all of my regular visitors and subscribers for hanging on so long. This has been a lot of fun, taught me a lot about music and opened some doors too so let's keep it going.

Two celebrate these 2 years, here's 2 versions of my favorite weird old school classic. Area Code 615's harmonica jam from 1970 is pretty well known, but the mid-80's Italian bootleg remix incorporating the You'll Like It Too break is kind of obscure I guess. As weird as the groove is, it seems it always appealed to a lot of different DJ's, maybe it's time someone recycled it again.

Extended Infusion

Club House: Infusion (DJ Anonymous Edit) 320 and AIFF
Club House's catchy, very much Chic-influenced Infusion is sweet but just a bit too short in it's original form. You already know what I had to do.
For the trivia-minded, dude who composed this went on to create this unforgettable 80's gem later that same year (1983).

Movin In All Directions

People's Choice: Movin In All Directions Y2TheZ Edit (1975/2006)
Dope instrumental edit of the funky Philly disco jam. Some of you might remember the killer bass line from Daniel Wang's seminal In The Street.
Oh yeah, that's an aiff too.

Money Edit

Xalan: Money (DJ Anonymous Edit)(1984/2008)
A quick re-edit of a catchy italo groove that in it's original form gets a little too catchy at times. Also I had to cut down on the tom fill madness a bit.
The jam is dedicated to my homie Tuipe aka Varaani, who's also responsible for the somewhat suspect Photoshop job.

Oh Well

So I missed the Discobelle party back home and I missed this. Go get it, it's my little updated edit of this.

And I'm going to miss the DJ Sega & DSJ night this weekend which really sucks too. All of my HKI peoples make sure to be there OK.
Have a fun wknd ya'll, I'm out to see what L.A.'s Little Tokyo has to offer.

UPDATE: Oh so the edit is here too. Eli's that dude.

UPDATE pt 2: Little Tokyo is just great. So many cool restaurants from sushi to ramen to shabu shabu to Korean BBQ. I also need to shout out last night's hosts Blu Jemz and Mike B, the funniest dudes in L.A.

Track Four Edit

Moodymann: Track Four (DJ Anonymous Edit)(98/08)
This is a simple dj friendly edit I just made of one of KDJ's best tracks, and one I hardly ever hear played out. As far as I'm concerned Moodymann songs should be played at all occasions, but I feel the jacking beat and edits on this kind of make it especially relevant today.

Do It All For You

This here is ex-Raydio dude Jerry Knight's catchy synth bass jam from his 1982 album Love On Our Side, ripped and edited for your convenience. It should go well with your Rick James set. I had the record since forever, but somehow managed to overlook the whole thing until today morning... Enjoy!

On A Day Like Today

I was planning to post something else entirely, but the beautiful spring morning kind of changed my mind. This is a short little edit thingy I made for personal use last weekend, but the song has a nice positive vibe to it and feels just right on a day like today.
Warning: if you're one of those people who can't stand kids singing (yeah, they exist) this is definitely not for you.

Sport

I'm playing a B-Boy event tomorrow, so I wanted to post something a little bit...funky. And to me, this is as funky as it gets. The whole Hustler's Convention album is incredible, I don't know if it's available as we speak, but if you ever see it don't hesitate to grab it. With Kool & The Gang and Last Poets' Lightnin Rod on the same record you can't really go wrong. This is the classic jammy:
Lightnin Rod: Sport (1973)

As a bonus, a super dope re-edit of the same. This came out on a 12" last year, I wish I knew who's behind it.

Money's Too Tight (To Mention)

Valentine Brothers: Money's Too Tight (To Mention) (1982)(Quick Edit)

This little edit I just did was inspired by all of the recent recession talk (I picked up The Economist yesterday- clearly a mistake), the fact that some people still think Simply Red wrote this themselves and knowing most other DJ's don't approve of the original version's borderline cheesy horn intro. Enjoy.

Daisy Lady

Of all UBB classics Daisy Lady has always been one of the biggest party starters for me. It's also real fun to do doubles of.
7th Wonder: Daisy Lady (Extended Intro Edit)(1979)

BONUS:
And here's the Sugarhill houseband take on it, the hard to find instrumental version of 8th Wonder. Also very effective, with just enough but not too many vocal snippets thrown in.

2 Edits

Here's two edits I did this morning. Both songs are from the mid 80's and although somewhat obscure they still have that classy club R&B sound of the era. You just gotta love it.
Shout outs to my man Soul-Sami who hooked me up with both of these.
