Heavenly Break… Reupped
Eli Escobar: Heavenly Break (AIFF)
Late Xmas gift by the man himself. You won’t believe how many requests I got for this this year, just because I once posted it after Eli’s original link had died.

I know I’m late with this, but forgive me, I’ve been knee deep into festival business and haven’t had any time to spend on the blog really. Anyway… Bladerunners’ interview with DJ Riz is essential reading so make sure to check it out. Also make sure to DL his classic Westwood Show mix from 1994 as it’s still SICK.
From rap to dancehall to house, all in all Big Beat was a real solid label through most of the 1990’s. Some of my favorite things are the handful of party breaks they put out and as far as I’m concerned the Deep In Brooklyn mix of Kenny Dope’s Supa is still one of the dopest in the genre. Dancehall vocals over rap beats always work for me and the Louie Rankin loop here is especially addictive.

Ok so that Zshare wasn’t co-operating, here’s a re-up.

BONUS:
An essential MAW party break, Funky Sensation with a Hihache loop.
Masters At Work: Get Up (1994)
Rude Rydims: Everybody Bounce (1995)
from Rude Rydims Experiment
Rude Rydims: You Could Even Dance (1995)
from Rude Rydims Experiment II
BONUS:
Capleton: Tour (Rude Rydims Bonus Mix)(1994)
Everybody Bounce is my jam, I used to play it A LOT back then and kind of rediscovered it last year. You Could Even Dance is from Volume II which I actually didn’t even have until I got one in Tokyo and it’s really good too. The Capleton remix is from the same Tour 12″ that features another remix by a very young Jonathan “Lil Jon” Smith. I’ll post that one later, together with some other dancehall things he did back in the day.
BONUS:
My favorite party break of 2007, if you missed it first time around you’ll still find it useful as Paper Planes is not going anywhere anytime soon (the remix single is finally out in a few weeks)
DJ B Cause: Annie Lennox Paper Planes

Back in mid to late 90’s I used to buy just about every party record AV8, Nervous and Nubian Crackers put out. At one point I did long sets of nothing but party breaks. Obviously that got tired real quick, but after 10 years I still enjoy playing some of them. Below you’ll find a few big AV8’s, all from 1996. A few people here call the DJ Eclipse joint “The Worldwide Song”, named after a club night we used to do. It was played every single time for years and years.
